How long does Writer’s Block usually last?

Over a year? Is that normal?

Crayap.

I haven’t written, edited, or even looked at one of my manuscripts since last year’s JUNOWRIMO!

Is that horrible? Yes. This is why I’m not published. I stopped trying. I just up and stopped. To be honest, I have a lot of reasons / excuses / life-changing events that have put me off from writing, but I know if I made it a priority I’d have something more to show for it.

Well NO MORE! I’ve promised myself to complete NaNoWriMo this year. Even if whatever I write is utter garbage. I miss it. I miss the process of weaving a story. I miss feeling creative and challenged. So I have a speck of an idea that’s going to turn into 50,000 words if it kills me.

What about you? Anyone else out there planning on NaNo-ing? How long do you stay stuck when you get stuck? And most important, how do you get out of it?? Advice welcome!

Happy Thursday!

  1. My method - for when I feel stuck, or don't feel like writing, or things keep getting in the way - is just pounding out 1000 words. That's it. They don't have to be good, or relevant. There's just something about forcing yourself into it that works; usually partway in I start hitting my stride again.

Good luck! I'm glad you're getting back to the writing.

  2. Oh you know I'm NaNo'ing again this year! But I have a brand new goal: ACTUALLY PUBLISH THIS ONE. And I agree with Kelsey: the best writer's block breaker is to open a blank file and just start typing. Don't worry about what you write, just make yourself keep typing until you've hit a number of minutes or words or whatever goal you had. that will get the brain juices flowing and you can then go back to writing things you actually want to write.
We should be Writing buddies on the NaNoWriMo site! Maybe even have a DDK Write-in! It'll be fun!

  3. Ive missed you, but I am sure you don't miss me sending you all sorts of articles I find while linking up book reviews. I can't imagine the brains it takes to write. I am so not capable. Reader, not writer. The end.
