Gaming

Here I just want to come clean and talk about the game I play religiously, as well as share some of my virtual creations. I swear anyone who loves interior design should love The Sims. You can build your dream house from the ground up. And when the trends change, you build a new one. It's so cathartic. And much less expensive than building real houses. Of course in the Sims there's a cheat for more money. Why can't I activate "motherlode" in real life?

Believe it or not, I've played The Sims since high school. I've had a relationship with them as long as I've been together with my husband. He introduced me to the game, so now he can't get mad when I go out and buy each new expansion pack. I don't even want to think about how much I've spent on those games. I've played since The Sims 1. And we're on 3. That's a long time. Our shared dream is for him to get a job at EA Games working on the Sims, because I have SO many ideas of how to improve the game!

And I want to get out there and speak up because I'm tired of being afraid to tell my designer friends that I like video games. I'm tired of not telling my gaming friends that I'm a designer. And none of them know about the fact that I want to be an author. But I think it should be okay for girls to be passionate about several aspects of life, gaming included.

I play World of Warcraft. I play Diablo. I play The Sims 3, The Sims Medieval, and The Sims on my phone. And that's just at this point in time. My brother started me young. I played text games, I played SpaceQuest, Monkey Island, Myst, Loom, Serf City, Civilization I, II, III, and IV, Caesar III, Rollercoaster Tycoon I and II, and I LOVE casual time-management games. And of course I grew up on Super Mario Brothers, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Duck Hunt, but mostly I’m a PC Gamer Girl. Console is a whole different ballgame.
So there it is. All out on the internet so I can't take it back.

My name is Kadie, and I'm a gamer.
